VISICU Earns ISO 9001 Certification

Approval Awarded by Worldwide Quality Standards Group on First Pass

August 19th, 2003

VISICU, Inc. creator of the eICU® solution, announced today that it has been officially certified as an ISO 9001 compliant provider for the eICU® solution. The certification covers the eCareManager technology, software, remote care tools, system architecture and care delivery plus training and implementation. Quality Systems Registrars Inc. (QSR®), an independent auditor, awarded the certificate on July 15th, 2003. ISO 9001 certification is a Quality System Standard recognized all over the world. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) also sanctioned the ISO 9001:2000 (ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000) certification. The certification ensures that VISICU has a sound quality system in place to meet their hospital/health system client's highest product and service standards and promotes customer satisfaction.

VISICU was certified ISO 9001 compliant after an extensive analysis in which the company and QSR® evaluated the processes used for ensuring product quality at every step of the product and business cycle. To ensure the integrity of the Quality Management System and provide an enhanced customer focus, the VISICU management team involved employees at all levels of the organization.

The eICU® solution transforms ICU care and reduces mortality. Early warning software, electronic monitoring and telemedicine technology is used to connect and leverage off-site critical care physician specialists known as intensivists, who are in limited supply, and critical care nurses to ICU patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"ISO 9001 certification is a recognized, worldwide standard and will pave the way for VISICU to effectively market its products and services outside of the United States," stated Frank T. Sample, President and CEO of VISICU. "By involving our staff at all levels and across every department, we reinforced our emphasis on taking even greater care in meeting customer needs and expectations throughout the company."

About VISICU
VISICU, Inc., a privately held company founded in 1998 by two intensivist physicians, is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. The eICU® solution enables hospitals to standardize ICU care across multiple hospitals and leverage scarce intensivist talent. From a centralized eICU®, intensivists and nurse's monitor and care for ICU patients through a high-fidelity telemedicine network, that has been likened to air traffic control. Proprietary software is used to proactively manage patient care and electronically connect the "patient to the doctor", 24 x 7. A Cap-Gemini E&Y study of the eICU® system proved the clinical and financial benefits and the eICU® solution is currently the only technology solution that enables hospitals to meet the Leapfrog Group's ICU patient care safety standards. VISICU won the 2001 Healthcare Informatics and Technology Award and in 2002 the eICU® was recognized as one of the Top 100 technical innovations by InfoWorld magazine.
